Synopsis
Six short movies by six successful Canadian directors are gathered in this anthology film, commissioned to celebrate the 350th anniversary of Montréal in 1992.

Desperanto, Or Let Sleeping Girls Lie , directed by: Patricia Rozema
The first film, directed by Patricia Rozema, humorously follows a bewildered Toronto housewife as she frantically attempts to enjoy her visit to this aggressively French-speaking city. She knows only English and must on one occasion resort to following the film's subtitles in order to understand what is happening.

A Canvas in Time, directed by: Jacques Leduc
The second short feature by director Jacques Leduc attempts to encapsulate more than three centuries of history in brief documentary form.

The Last Period, directed by: Michel Brault
The third feature by Michel Brault parallels the action in a hockey game at the Montréal Forum with the divorce games of a young couple.

Passing Through, directed by: Atom Egoyan
In the feature by Atom Egoyan, a lonely tourist experiences communication only from the headset narration provided by his electronic walking tour device.

Answer me, directed by: LĂ©a Pool
An automobile accident provides the occasion, in the next segment by LĂ©a Pool, for a woman to have her life flash before her eyes.

Seen From Afar, directed by: Denys Arcand
Denys Arcand shows an important governmental representative is quite innocently mangling the introductions being made to him as he stands in the receiving line of a cocktail party.

Directors Biography
Patricia Rozema is Canadian filmmaker known for making films imbued with feminist passion that enrapture art-house audiences even as they mystify those headed for the multiplex. She made an auspicious feature directorial debut in 1987 with I've Heard the Mermaids Singing. Selected filmography: 'Kit Kittredge: An American Girl' (2008), 'Mansfield Park' (1998), 'Bach Cello Suite #6: Six Gestures' (1997), 'Curtis's Charm' (1995), 'White Room' (1991).

Jacques Leduc, film director, cameraman (born at Montréal 25 Nov 1941). A writer for the magazine Objectif (1961-67), Leduc joined the National Film Board during that period. He worked as a cameraman until 1967 when he began directing. His first major film is 'On est loin du soleil' (1970). In the 5 years after Tendresse ordinaire (1973), he directed Chronique de la vie quotidienne, a series of 8 films that draw upon daily life, recombining its elements into a work of fiction. Leduc next undertook to reflect on documentaries, Québec society, political militancy and the role of women. Since 1990 he has worked mainly with other directors in the role of director of photography.

Michael Brault is Canadian filmmaker, a key figure of Quebecoise films. He is best known for his cinéma vérité style cinematography and the films he directed during the late '50s.

Atom Egoyan is one of the most distinctive members of the film industry to emerge in the 1990s. Director, writer, editor, and producer Atom Egoyan has left an indelible imprint on audiences everywhere with his haunting, beautifully wrought work. His work often explores themes of alienation and isolation, featuring characters whose interactions are mediated through technology, bureaucracy or other power structures. Stylistically, Egoyan's films often follow non-linear plot-structures. Filmography: Adoration (2008), 'Where the Truth Lies' (2005), 'Ararat' (2002), 'Felicia's Journey' (1999), 'The Sweet Hereafter' (1997), 'Exotica' (1994), 'Calendar' (1993), 'The Adjuster' (1991), 'Speaking Parts' (1989), 'Family Viewing' (1987), 'Next of Kin' (1984).

LĂ©a Pool is Swiss-born filmmaker, she makes thoughtful French-language dramas from Quebec, Canada, that have met with much acclaim at international film festivals.Filmography: 'Lost and Delirious' (2001), 'À Corps Perdu' (1988), 'Emporte-Moi' (1998), 'Mouvements du DĂ©sir' (1994), 'MontrĂ©al Vu Par...' (1991), 'La Femme de l'HĂ´tel' (1984).

Denys Arcand intensely personal, challenging, and intellectual films have gained him a devoted international following. A former documentarian whose understanding of the human condition often results in movies with realistic and honest personalities, Arcand has seemingly cornered the market in cerebral, character-driven stories in an era when computer-generated explosions fill the multiplexes. Selected filmography: 'Days of Darkness' (2007), 'The Barbarian Invasions' (2003), 'Stardom' (2000), 'Love and Human Remains' (1993), 'Montréal Vu Par...' (1991), 'Jesus of Montreal' (1989), 'The Decline of the American Empire' (1986).
